I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2009, and by 2011, my disease had become so aggressive I underwent an emergency total colectomy and was gifted with my ileostomy, “Lips.” A year later, I had recovered enough to have an internal pouch created, and I lived happily and healthily until I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2016. (I should be buying Lotto tickets, right?) I may not be as healthy, but I’m even happier, and I used my experience to write a series of survival guides: You Don’t Look Sick: Quick and Dirty Tips for Surviving Ulcerative Colitis, My Other Bag’s a Prada: Quick and Dirty Tips for Surviving an Ileostomy, and Unicorn Farts and Glitter: Quick and Dirty Tips for Surviving a J-Pouch. Each is full of the day-to-day information and tips I wished I known during my journey. I also have a blog which details the different way my disease has affected me and has some fun resources for anyone living with IBD.

When I’m not writing books (I’m also a science fiction author!), I love being a mom, reading, and playing video games. And watching TV. And eating. Especially eating.
