In November 2014, I was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer, and after a year of treatment and two surgeries (gaining an ostomy and losing it), I am currently cancer free! I began art journaling as a way to cope and began drawing myself as an owl, thus Cancer Owl was born.
The comic has been able to impact thousands and is currently being used in cancer support groups and college classrooms. Hardly a day goes by that I don't hear about how the comic has made a difference in the lives of cancer patients, survivors, caretakers, and healthcare professionals.
I work as an art-based therapist and love the work I get to do for people every day. I also get to go home every day to the two most beautiful ladies in the world, my wife and daughter. When I'm not doing art type stuff and therapy, I'm running trails, cooking pizzas from scratch, and making wonderful memories with my family.
