Verena grew up in Germany and moved to the United States at age 25. She was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 1985 when she was four years old and had her first partial bowel resection in 1998, then fistula surgery in 2009-2001. When a stomach perforation occurred in 2015, she underwent five more surgeries.
She loves taking care of her pets (three cats and a dog), reading, writing, and enjoys the outdoors of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Her blog, The Morbus Crohnicles, is a space for many voices and opinions.
