Have you ever thought about choosing a nickname for your ostomy but never found the right one? Here's one we think you'll like!
In August, 2005 Cate Luth had permanent ileostomy surgery due to Crohn’s disease. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, is married to her best friend Rob, loves her dog Lucy and is known as “crazy Aunt Cate” to her 11 nieces and nephews.
Cate inspires us because she views having an illness and ostomy as something that is keeping her grounded. She found that naming her stoma “Willy” helped with personalizing it more, and having a sense of humor helped her see the ironic side of things.
She says, "I believe there is a reason why I am here and living this special journey. This is my body, this is my story. I am proud to have an ostomy, aka my Poui-Vuitton bag! It has taken me many years to get to this point of accepting it, but it happened."
When you understand who you are meant to be, your purpose becomes bigger than your fears.
