For over 30 years, Youth Rally has hosted summer camp for children and teens living with bowel or bladder dysfunction. Last month campers from around the world traveled to San Diego State University for another unforgettable event.

Youth Rally could probably be described in a single word – FUN! But the 7-night camp experience had plenty more to offer, just ask 23-year-old Kelsey Scarborough who has a colostomy due to ulcerative colitis. She is a nursing student and one of Youth Rally’s counselors who said, “so many unforgettable memories were made.”

Asking Kelsey to pick out the most memorable moments was like asking her to choose a favorite camper (impossible), but she did her best to narrow down the highlights. Check out 11 of the best moments from Youth Rally 2017 below.

1. Welcome To Camp

Everyone was thrilled to arrive at camp to begin an unbelievable week of fun! For many of these kids it was their first Youth Rally experience.

3. Neon Bowling With A Twist

Campers took to the lanes for pizza and cosmic bowling. It's a whole new ball game with funny glasses and hats all around. Don't be fooled to think this was just for kids, the counselors joined too!

5. Self-Esteem Day

Campers divided into age groups to take part in sessions geared toward self-esteem concerns. The younger campers played minute-to-win-it games, while the older campers discussed starting college and becoming more independent.

7. Motivation & Inspiration

This year Youth Rally was excited to welcome wheelchair bodybuilder, Nick Scott as an inspiring guest speaker. When he was 16, Nick was in a near-fatal car accident which left him paralyzed from the waist down, but that didn't derail his competitive ambitions.

“They said I would never walk again, but a seed of determination was forming even then, and I did manage to walk out of that hospital to my new life.” – Nick Scott

Nick's inspiration put a really big smile on Kelsey's face.

8. California Beach Time

A trip to San Diego isn't complete without time spent at the beach. Campers and counselors headed to Mission Beach for a day of fun in the sun.

9. Must-See Belmont Park

Located on the surf and sand of Mission Beach, Belmont Park is San Diego's only beachfront amusement center. Rides and attractions were the ultimate fun from sunup to sundown!

10. Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations 17-year-old graduates! They're no longer campers, but the good news is they're eligible to apply for the counselor-in-training program in 2018!

11. 60's Dance Party

One way to pass the time until the sun comes up is a dance party. This year’s theme was 60’s hippies, and of course the counselors went all out with their groovy outfits.
