Over the last 10 years, Rare Disease Day has become an influential patient-led international campaign for raising awareness of rare diseases. Events in over 80 countries and regions across the world are being held in an effort to connect millions of patients, improve research and strengthen patient resources.
According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, there are nearly 7,000 diseases considered rare in the U.S. which are characterized by a broad range of disorders and symptoms that vary not only from disease to disease, but also from patient to patient suffering from the same disease.
Here are some incredible advocates in the ostomy community on Twitter who are bringing awareness to their rare disease by taking part in the #ShowYourRare campaign on February 28 for Rare Disease Day.
Imagine if there was only a handful of people living with a disease that you were diagnosed with, and little or no research was available, and there was no existing treatment for your disease. Imagine the isolation you would feel. Rare Disease Day is for everyone. Support the rare disease community by showing you care.
