National Family Caregivers Month is celebrated each November as a time to recognize and honor the efforts of family caregivers across the country. The Caregiver Action Network began promoting national recognition of family caregivers in 1994. President Clinton signed the first NFC Month Presidential Proclamation in 1997 and every president since has issued an annual proclamation honoring family caregivers each November.
Each and every day, caregivers – unpaid or paid – devote time, energy and resources to ensure that people who are disabled, elderly, chronically ill, or injured receive proper care with daily activities. It can be a 24-hour a day/7-day a week job which is why the Caregiver Action Network named this year’s theme, “Caregiving Around the Clock.”
One of the most important factors in a patient's recovery after ostomy surgery is the involvement and support of ostomy nurses, family and friends. Parthenon Medical Supplies appreciates the important role that Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses (WOCN) have in the lives of ostomates. Providing emotional support to ostomy patients and their commitment to specialized training is why Parthenon created a new scholarship for nurses currently enrolled in an accredited WOC program within the United States.
“I’m very excited about this new scholarship program because we need more Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses. Our hope is that the funds received will help ease the financial cost for those pursuing their WOC credentials.” – Jason Mihalopoulos, President of Parthenon.
Their annual program will award two individuals every year with $500. For more information about Parthenon’s scholarship visit, Parthenoninc.com/scholarship.
Another leading provider of home-delivered medical supplies is celebrating their 16th annual Caregiver Contest asking, "What advice would you give a fellow caregiver?" Over the years, Shield HealthCare has had over 3,500 contributions – from both professional and family caregivers – to share a glimpse into their lives as well as insights gained during their daily efforts.
"This contest is a chance for Shield to demonstrate its sincere appreciation for the hard work caregivers do every day. At Shield, we attempt to embed ourselves in the communities and homes we supply as much as we can. This contest gives us a chance to learn what's happening beneath the surface and then share what we learn. The result is much more than a lesson about customers, it's about the humanity of giving." – Roger Miller, Chief Marketing Officer of Shield HealthCare
The top three winners of Shield HealthCare's 2017 caregiver advice contest will each receive a $500 American Express Gift Card and a one-year subscription to Today's Caregiver Magazine. Five runners-up will also receive the magazine subscription and a $150 American Express Gift Card. For the full contest details, please visit www.shieldhealthcare.com/caring.
Today and every day, we honor all caregivers who help ostomates face the future head-on after life-saving surgery.
