The Osto-EZ-Vent® was invented by Hans Butterwegge. He was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 1994 which resulted in life-saving colostomy surgery later that year. With nothing on the market at the time to address ballooning issues with the pouch, he came up with a product idea that could quickly release built-up gas pressure from the pouch.
“Creating the Osto-EZ-Vent enabled me to resume traveling the world with my wife, and my hope is that this product continues to have the same effect on other ostomates.” – Hans Butterwegge
The OEV™ is an air release device that attaches to any manufacturer’s pouch. When properly installed on any brand of ostomy pouch, it bonds permanently, is water-proof, and can last as long as the user wears their pouch. The new design has glides that push against the OEV™ base to help lift and open the Osto-EZ-Vent®. The OEV™ can also be used on preemie, infant and fistula pouches, and wound drainage bags.
The new OEV™ Glides will help makes opening the device easier for those with limited hand dexterity, such as arthritis. Pinch the OEV™ Glides for easier opening to quickly release air buildup. In pinching the OEV™ Glides, the Glides push against the OEV™ base to help lift up and open the OEV™. When the OEV™ is closed, the Glides lay flat to prevent catching on clothing.
Since 1996, the Osto-EZ-Vent® has been one of the most innovative methods of releasing air pressure from ostomy pouches. The updated OEV™ has begun shipping to dealers and suppliers in U.S. and will start shipping to international partners in the next coming months.
