Founder’s Story
From the age of 11, something in Christine didn’t feel right. The symptoms were abdominal pain, no appetite, immune deficiency, and frequent bathroom trips. The diagnosis was Crohn's disease, and for the next ten years, this chronic illness took over her life.
By the age of 21, the condition had become unmanageable, leading to ileostomy surgery in 1994. During her operation, the diseased colon was removed, and the procedure was successful. Soon after, Christine realized the media had little understanding of lifesaving ostomy surgery.
While significant progress has been made in reducing the stigma surrounding certain cancers and digestive diseases, ostomy surgery still faces shame. That’s why O/C is committed to showcasing those thriving with an ostomy and craving a renewed take on life.
In 2013, Christine envisioned a niche online publication. 2014, she began creating it, and in 2015, O/C was launched and dubbed “a hub for ostomates.”
