Founder’s Story

From the age of 11, something in Christine didn’t feel right. The symptoms were abdominal pain, no appetite, immune deficiency, and frequent bathroom trips. The diagnosis was Crohn's disease, and for the next ten years, this chronic illness took over her life.

By age 21, the condition became unmanageable, so ileostomy surgery was performed in 1994. During this operation, the diseased colon was removed. The surgery was successful for Christine because she’s been healthy for decades. In her 30s, she quickly realized there was little awareness about this lifesaving surgery.

Over the years, tremendous strides have been made in reducing the stigma of digestive diseases and cancers, but ostomy surgery, not so much. We’re just not comfortable talking about it . . . yet.

Christine is a born entrepreneur. For years, she envisioned creating a niche online publication. In 2015, she launched O/C, a hub for ostomates craving a renewed take on life.
